Sorry entries have now closed and the competition has now ended.

The competition was for young people aged between 15 and 18 – they were asked to write a 300 word essay entitled ‘One big idea that will make our community a better place to live’. It could have been as simple as a market day to encourage travellers to stop in at their town to sample the local fare, or a mentoring programme to help local teens to achieve their goals – we reckon that no one knows your community like you do!

Phil Murray, the entrepreneur behind Gasoline Alley, took a road trip around New Zealand throughout April 2010. On the way, he met the local winner of each of the 30 Spirit of New Zealand voyages and threw a good old Kiwi sausage sizzle!
