It’s more than a sailing adventure.

It’s a great opportunity for teenagers to develop independence, resilience, confidence, self esteem, communication and team building skills and community spirit as they learn to sail. The Spirit of New Zealand, a tall ship owned by the Spirit of Adventure Trust, has taken more than 50,000 young people on 10-day voyages of personal discovery in its 37 years of operation.

The 10-Day Youth Development Voyage takes onboard 40 trainees with an equal mix of females and males, all total strangers. The value of teamwork becomes very apparent, as does co-operation, communication, confidence, tolerance and leadership.

During their voyage trainees are presented with a number of diverse opportunities and activities that ensure they learn a great deal about themselves and develop as individuals. www.spiritofadventure.org.nz
